Grand Anarcho Dandyist Ball

The creators of The Chap Magazine convert the pages of their gentleman’s journal into the year’s most dapper shindig

An evening of old-world jollity, this spectacular includes acts who stroll amongst the guests. Party-goers are entertained by Viv the Spiv, table-top horseracing and the legendary “Chap Room”. Here, guests dictate a letter to a 1950s secretary before it is personally delivered on a silver salver to another guest by a butler.

Having given its readers a hearty clap on the back for loyally keeping The Chap going for a decade, this year the magazine sets in motion its plan to entertain the troops, with each party promising to be even more spectacular than the last.

Hosted in one of London’s only remaining original art deco ballrooms, the  striking venue was built between 1926 and 1932. Guests leave the 21st century far behind the moment their immaculately shod feet leave the entry staircase with the breathtaking Grand Ballroom sweeping guests back to the heady 1920s and 1930s. Delicious retro cocktails are served by Bourne & Hollingsworth, sealing the glamorous impression.

Entertainment continues throughout the evening, whether it be live acts on the main stage, amusing sideshows and vignettes, or by the exchange of romantic missives with another guest in “the Chap Room.”

Dress code – ‘A night of a thousand waistcoats’: 1890s decadence, 1920s villainy, 1930s glamour, 1940s spiv. Anyone arriving in Polyester will be politely asked to stand near a naked flame and handed some tweed.
